MirrorMask

MirrorMask, written by Neil Gaiman and directed by Dave McKean, has definitely become one of my favorites that has inspired my film interests. It’s such a different style from what you normally see in theaters. Dave McKean’s brilliant artistry combined with Gaiman’s internationally acclaimed story telling makes a remarkable piece. And to think that it was the first film for many of the crew, including McKean! Here is the synopsis from sony pictures

MirrorMask is the story of Helena, a fifteen-year-old girl working for her family circus, who wishes-quite ironically-that she could run away from the circus and join real life. But such is not to be the case, as she finds herself on a strange journey into the Dark Lands, a fantastic landscape filled with giants, Monkeybirds and dangerous sphinxes. Helena searches for the Mirrormask, an object of enormous power that is her only hope of escaping the Dark Lands, waking the Queen of Light and returning home.

The soundtrack by Iain Ballamy is worth mentioning too. It’s got jazzy roots to create a new sound for the world of mirrormask.

This movie has certainly opened my eyes to new possibilities
