Mykonos

This isn’t particularly new, but Fleet Foxes’ music video for Mykonos is just perfect for summer. Animated construction paper cut-outs, dreamy colors (and music!). I think I’m going to get back into a graphic design groove soon :)

Coraline

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

Book_Cover_CoralineOk, I’m in a Coraline frenzy! Coraline, written by Neil Gaiman is a children’s fantasy story about a girl who has just recently moved into an old house with her parents. Behind a door in one of the rooms, she discovers a different world. This new world, however, is built the same as the old one. The house is the same, and the people are the same too…except for one little thing. Her “other” mother and father and all of the other characters have button eyes! It’s great for her until things get slightly sinister. An interesting take on the classic, Alice in Wonderland.

But that’s not all. Coraline has been turned into a 3D, stop motion picture by the one and only, Henry Selick, creator of The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. (that was a mouthful!) Henry Selick completely rebuilt the world of Coraline and made it come to life with the incredible team at Laika. Also, it’s terrifying and thrilling to see how 3D has evolved and is becoming a major part of film today.

You’d think I was done, but I’m not. The Coraline package comes with a beautifully designed flash website. Throughout the site you can find short video clips of the making of Coraline. You will be fascinated by some of the interviews and what the animators had to go through.

And last, but not least, the soundtrack by Bruno Coulais completes this thrilling children’s tale.
