I haven’t blogged in a really long time. I just finished my freshman year of college at NYU. It was incredible. I wanted to post a few things that have inspired me this past semester.

I’m trying to grasp my own sense of style with regards to music. I have my favorite bands, I know what I want to sound like, but getting there is hard. It’s hard to recreate what already exists and still be original…otherwise there’s no point, right? I want to be Micachu, the Pixies, Spoon, but also have melodies as provoking as classical music: Erik Satie, Ravel…
Currently wishing my Advanced College Essay assignments could sound as good as this.
I don’t even know why I really like this film…maybe it’s because I’m having such a hard time getting past the surface of any form of art and “Brief Interviews of Hideous Men” so effortlessly achieves this. The expository NYU writing classes are all about exploring the tensions that arise in works such as writing, art, or film, and then finding why the work is significant through the questions they pose. In our assignments we compare works with other works, we describe, we research, and I can do all that…but I can never seem to get past all the details.
Seori told me what steampunk is and now i’m in love. It’s metals, rust, steam, and machinery, all with intricate victorian design. It’s the future dreamed up by the past.
Maybe we take photographs in order to go back in time…or to pretend that we are living someone else’s life.
